Oakland, CA: Pro Arts is pleased to present Pictures,Featuring, an exhibition that considers how performance shapes our experience of two dimensional art. This exhibition is on view from

Oakland gallery. Reveling in the unpredictability and open-endedness of performance, Pictures, Featuring will bring ten one day solo exhibitions to Pro Arts. In a split gallery; one half of the space presents a single day exhibition, while the second half is in transition. The next day the spaces flip. Through making visible the process of exhibitions – gallery visitors can witness the complete cycle of install, exhibition and deinstall – Pictures, Featuring offers a peep into the multidimensional practices of ten ‘picture’ artists.

An Artists’ Reception will be held on Friday, November 7, 6-8pm. There will also be daily ‘open house’ events from 2pm to 4pm during the exhibitions to encourage inquiry, dialogue, and an appreciation for the moment. A time lapse camera will record the course of the exhibition to be hosted on the exhibition webpage. Exhibition and events are free to the public.

FROM THE MESS HALLMess Hall Café OpenLOCATIONProject SpaceJoin participating artists for an opening reception on Sunday, May 4!Collective Disturbances showcases new works created by Headlands’ 2013-14 Graduate Fellows during their yearlong studio residencies. As with escalating weather patterns and other chaotic macro-phenomena of nature, the thoughts and gestures of contemporary artists resolve in convergent as well as divergent fashion. And as with both organized and spontaneous social and political enterprise, creative individuals express themselves through a wide range of mediums and idiosyncratic approaches. This is especially true in dynamic locales of rapidly shifting climactic conditions where great creative exchange occurs: defining characteristics for the situation of the seven artists whose projects are featured in this show.Headlands’ Graduate Fellowships provide yearlong studio residencies to recent, promising MFA graduates in partnership with seven esteemed Bay Area academic institutions. Bringing together representatives from each of these institutions, this exhibition provides a composite view of select Bay Area graduate art programs. INSPIRE ARTISTS WHO INSPIRE YOU                  January 3, 2014

Selections by Peer Review
Exhibition Dates: January 21 - February 21, 2014
Artists' Reception: Friday, February 7, 6-8pm

Oakland, CA: Pro Arts is pleased to present Inspire Artists Who Inspire You, an exhibition reflecting Pro Arts' roots as an artist-centered organization. Based on a peer review process, Inspire Artists Who Inspire You explores how artists support, sustain and participate in the launch of each other's work. The program also allows insight into review processes, while encouraging artists to think critically about their own work within the scope of Bay Area art.

"I'm excited by the emergent themes in the show," says Amy Spencer, Program Coordinator / Curator. "There is a strong respect for innovative material use and high craft. Also, it was nice to see the artists express empathy for each other's daily lives - studio practice, quiet moments at home - and a subtle appreciation for the oddball, unique and absurd."

Over 110 artists participated in the peer review; viewing each other's work via Pro Arts custom built online 'blind' jury system.

"I found it rewarding to see what other artists were creating. I found myself using the criteria of excellence, relevance, and innovation to my own work as compared to what I saw online, and felt that expanded my horizons."

"I felt like I was taking part in an important process, not just competing against other artists for a spot in the show."

Featured artists: Dru Anderson, Ned Axthelm, Jamie Banes, Gabriele Bungardt, Andreina Davila, Jan Dove, David Fought, Bernadette Jiyong Frank, Jenne Giles, Ant Hall, Emanuela Iuliana Harris-Sintamarian, Jeremiah Jenkins, Michael Koehle, Goran Konjevod, Elaine Nehm, Fernando Reyes, Stephanie Robison, Dimitra Skandali, Patricia Sonnino, Tali Weinberg

43rd Annual MFA Graduate Exhibition Reviewhttp://www.mercurynews.com/breaking-news/ci_23308003/graduate-exhibition-at-berkeley-art-museum-featGraduate exhibition at Berkeley Art Museum features six artistsBy Lou FancherFor the Contra Costa TimesPosted: 05/23/2013 10:17:48 AM PDTUpdated: 05/23/2013 12:34:33 PM PDTBERKELEY -- An exhibit at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archives spins an ancient-but-technologically astute portrait of expression from six graduates of the UC Berkeley Master of Fine Arts program. This year's artistic six-pack reveals contemporary concerns, looking beyond hype to history and delving back to a time when art explained the gods, the universe, dreams and evolutionary processes. Interaction -- meaning honest-to-goodness, physical action -- while not a part of all the work, is a dominant theme in the conceptual and actual approaches to the works on display through June 16.Curator Dena Beard has performed her customary wizardry -- finding cohesion in a mad tangle of individual expression and presenting something other than a knot or a puzzle. An artist in her own right, Beard's flair arrives through juxtapositions: one artist's somber expression sets off another's flight of fancy, and so forth.Dru Anderson is the ultimate in volume, capable of cranking out three or more works a day. Her elaborate, feathered, feminine dreams arrive with details denying gender classification's too-easy boundaries. Even dimension is not allowed a dictatorial position, as "Dreamality River, 2013," attests, with a "dimensions variable" display note.Master of Fine Arts Graduate ExhibitionTHE 43RD ANNUAL UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, BERKELEY MASTER OF FINE ARTS GRADUATE GROUP EXHIBITION MAY 17-JUNE 16, 2013Dru Anderson Dusadee Pang Huntrakul Erin Colleen Johnson Sahar Khoury Jess Rowland Sean TallyUC Berkeley Art Museum & Pacific Film Archive Woo Hon Fai Hall 2626 Bancroft Way Berkeley, CA 94720Opening CelebrationFriday, May 17, 20136-8 p.m.
